  • Voluntary work period can vary from 1 month up to 1 year. It’s good to stay in one placement during your whole stay. Voluntary work doesn’t require any previous experience or education; just open mind and willingness to learn a new culture and help people in need.
  • Our voluntary work placements are very poor places so any kind of donations are very welcome. You can ask us what your placement needs or you can bring money and buy your donations from here. We don’t give money to the placements.

Teach and Assist Community Development

Work on village development projects including teaching, building classrooms and dormitories, and supplying books and other school materials.

Help improve impoverished Tanzanian children’s potential in this nationally recognized educational program. Work alongside local teachers and students during the school year in remote partner communities. We will make certain your skills and interests are put to the best use on long-term community infrastructure, teaching and medical projects. Your efforts will help ease the suffering and engender hope for the future of students and their families in Tanzania communities and we do hope that if you lend your heart and hands you can make a world of difference!

Volunteers live and work in three distinct and remote villages helping repair community structures, painting classrooms, building desks and chairs, and assist with other construction and labor tasks. Volunteers may also teach beginning through intermediate English pronunciation and conversation in a high school classrooms. English is the language of instruction in Tanzania secondary schools and some kindergartens, international and academy primary schools, but in these partner villages, you will find that the students’ English comprehension is limited. Work projects vary from team to team, as needs arise.

On some teams physicians, nurses, dentists and physical therapists may work part-time at rural clinics performing examinations and well-baby checkups. Volunteers also provide basic computer instruction on portable computers donated through various individuals and organizations.

Volunteers enjoy cooking and basket-weaving lessons, attending various community ceremonies and playing soccer with the local people and visiting a nearby Maasai village. There are opportunities to arrange safaris in these areas at your free week end times. Free-time arrangements and costs are your responsibility but we can help you achieve one.

Assisting teachers of Special Education offers help to students with mental and physical disabilities that require extra attention and support. Your presence and support helps students build confidence in themselves and gain energy for new accomplishments. Volunteers are warmly welcomed by teachers who appreciate the exchange of ideas, and an extra pair of hands to work one-on-one with students.
Your work may be helping with educational games, sports, teaching life skills, and language and vocational training. Volunteers with experience in Special Education can also bring their skills and initiative to help create lesson plans and activities for the classroom.

Caring for People with Disabilities

Caring for people with disabilities helps create a compassionate and nurturing environment for the physically and mentally disabled. Volunteers provide much needed support and individual attention, and help with their physical and mental development.
As a volunteer, you are energizing the staff by working side-by-side with them and sharing their commitment to meeting the needs of the disabled population. Your presence is also inspiring to other community members, ultimately increasing participation in centers for people with disabilities.
Volunteers help staff provide nutrition, education, and healthcare, and teach life skills. Volunteer work may be assisting with daily routines such as feeding and cleaning, and also assisting with physical therapy, recreational activities, music, and exercise.

Caring for the Elderly

Caring for the elderly helps create a compassionate and nurturing atmosphere at homes for the elderly and senior centers. Elderly people are sometimes the most neglected and abandoned group in society. Their access to basic services and income is severely restricted, and they often lack support groups. Community initiatives and organizations provide an opportunity for the elderly to receive one-on-one attention, learn new skills, and receive basic nutrition and healthcare.
Volunteer work may include lively activities such as singing & dancing, leading exercise, playing games, and developing arts & crafts projects. It may also be simple but meaningful work such as preparing meals, feeding, and other similar care giving tasks. As a volunteer, your visit brightens someone’s day, providing mental stimulation and energizing the spirit and body.

Working with People affected by HIV/AIDS

Working with people affected by HIV/AIDS helps provide treatment and prevention services to people in disadvantaged communities. Most people with HIV/AIDS live in countries where the level of intervention is at its lowest and prejudice is at its highest.  There are many ways to get involved based on your skills and the needs of the specific community. You may be coordinating recreational activities for children whose families are affected by the disease; you may be supporting medical professionals who are caring for patients directly; you may be assisting with in-home care and counseling; and, you may be assisting staff with training seminars and conferences.
You can also play an important role in community outreach and prevention efforts, spreading awareness, and educating the community about HIV/AIDS. The presence of volunteers also helps to break down stereotypes, and reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS. Anyone with energy and interest in this issue can make a meaningful contribution, and all are welcome.

Observing and Assisting Local Health Professionals

Observing and assisting local health professionals enables you to support much needed healthcare services offered in the community. These may include promoting health education, nutrition, and hygiene in homes for the elderly, orphanages, health clinics, and even elementary schools. Healthcare service providers often work with limited resources and offer services to low-income populations at minimal or no cost so local health professionals appreciate your presence and the extra pair of hands to assist them.
Volunteer work may include providing education about basic health and nutrition, physical therapy activities and stretching, basic cleaning, organizing, and offering companionship. A key contribution of any volunteer in this type of placement is cultural exchange. This may mean exchanging ideas and life experiences or offering companionship.
Simply by being there to support their work in the community, your presence provides these professionals with a sense of solidarity for their work. Your volunteer work will vary based on your level of knowledge and experience in the field of health, your fluency in the local language, and also the customs of the country where you are volunteering.

Assisting Teachers in Primary Schools

Assisting teachers in schools with limited resources provides an engaging environment for educating children and teenagers. Your ideas, your energy, and your presence are exciting for students and invigorating for the teachers and parents. The students are full of curiosity about the world around them and they welcome your perspective. You are also a positive role model to youth who are often at-risk. You will serve as a teacher’s aide in subjects such as science, music, sports, and drama. You may also be involved in creative projects and non-classroom based activities which help create a stimulating learning environment.

Teaching English in Low-income Communities

Teaching English in low-income communities can increase employment opportunities and ultimately help people to become economically independent. Both inexperienced and experienced volunteers can teach vocabulary, assist with pronunciation and support students as they practice speaking English.

These students, of all ages and backgrounds, appreciate the opportunity to interact with fluent speakers and the extra assistance is welcomed by local teachers. If you are fluent in English you can provide a real contribution to the community and have great fun in the process.

Teaching Children

Teaching children helps create a stimulating learning environment for children from low-income communities. New ideas and energy excite the children and provide much needed encouragement for the teachers and parents.

Activities include teaching educational games, arts & crafts, sports, and working alongside local teachers to create new developmentally and culturally appropriate activities for the children. Your presence and support also means that students receive more individual attention and care
